☕ Think darker coffee means more caffeine? Think again!

One of the biggest myths in coffee is that dark roasts are stronger. In reality, the roast level changes much more than just the color of the bean.

🔥 During roasting, hundreds of flavor compounds are created through chemical reactions, transforming the same coffee into completely different sensory experiences.

Here's what changes with the roast:
🌱 Light Roast: Bright acidity, floral and fruity notes.
🌰 Medium Roast: Balanced sweetness, caramel and nutty flavors.
🍫 Medium-Dark Roast: Fuller body with chocolate-like notes.
🌑 Dark Roast: Bold, smoky, bittersweet character.

💡 Curiosity: The exact same coffee bean can taste like berries, chocolate, nuts, or even wine—simply because of how it was roasted.

There isn't a "best" roast. The best roast is the one that highlights the flavors you enjoy most.

What's your favorite?

#SpecialtyCoffee #CoffeeRoasting #CoffeeEducation #CoffeeLover #coffeebeans🤯 This coffee tastes like WATERMELON... and nobody added watermelon.

Sounds impossible?

That's exactly what makes specialty coffee so fascinating.

Many people believe these exotic flavors come from syrups or artificial flavoring.

They don't.

The incredible notes of watermelon, jackfruit, passion fruit, mango, strawberry, and countless other fruits are created naturally through the combination of:

🌱 Coffee genetics
🌍 Terroir and climate
🍒 Perfectly ripe cherries
🧪 Expert fermentation techniques
🔥 Precise roasting

Every decision—from the farm to the roaster—shapes the final cup.

This is why two coffees from the same country can taste completely different.

And here's the best part:

Nature created these flavors long before anyone opened the coffee bag.

Is it for everyone?

Not necessarily.

Some coffee lovers will always prefer classic chocolate and nutty profiles. Others discover these fruit-forward coffees and never look back.

Neither is right or wrong.

That's the beauty of specialty coffee: there's always another flavor waiting to surprise you.

When you pay €4 for an espresso, how much reaches the farmer who grew the beans?

The answer might surprise you: 🌱 Around 7 cents.

The producer takes the greatest risk—climate, labor, harvest quality, and years of investment—yet receives only a small fraction of the final value.

Meanwhile, every step along the supply chain adds costs, services, and margins before the coffee reaches your cup.
This isn't about blaming exporters, importers, or roasters. Each plays an essential role.

It's about creating a more transparent and balanced value chain, where exceptional quality is rewarded more fairly.

At Kafzin, we believe that shortening the distance between Brazilian specialty coffee producers and European buyers creates value for everyone:

✔️ Greater transparency
✔️ Stronger relationships
✔️ Better traceability
✔️ Fairer returns for the producers who make exceptional coffee possible

Because every great cup begins long before the roast—it begins on the farm.

Would you pay the same price for your coffee if you knew more of it reached the producer?

Ever wondered what separates your morning brew from the absolute pinnacle of Specialty Coffee? It all comes down to the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) scoring scale, where anything above an 80 is specialty—but the coffees on this list are in a league of their own. 🏆

We are diving into the archives of the Cup of Excellence (COE) to look at how the world’s best coffee producers have broken records over the last 26 years:

🌱 What is Specialty Coffee?

It’s not just a marketing buzzword. It means a coffee has scored 80+ points, is strictly quality-focused, fully traceable to the farm, and boasts incredibly unique flavor profiles!

🌍 The Hall of Fame:

1999: The journey begins! COE is founded in Brazil, changing the specialty coffee game forever.

2010 (El Salvador): Finca Pacamara shatters expectations with a 94.0 score Gesha (Washed), bursting with creamy jasmine and tropical fruit notes.

2018 (Costa Rica): Finca Loma Alta hits the coveted 95.0 mark with a Natural Gesha that tastes like pure florals, stone fruit, and honey.

2021 (Colombia) – THE PINNACLE: Finca San Pascual absolutely breaks the scale with an unbelievable 96.12 score! This F1 Hybrid features mind-blowing notes of berries, lime, caramel, and an effervescent finish. It remains the highest COE score EVER recorded. 🤯

The dedication, science, and passion these farmers pour into every single cherry is what makes specialty coffee an art form.

There is a family.

Across Brazil's mountains and valleys, thousands of small producers dedicate their lives to cultivating coffee with care, knowledge, and passion passed down through generations. While Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer, the heart of its specialty coffee industry remains deeply rooted in family-owned farms.

Every harvest represents early mornings, careful hand-picking, respect for the land, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

When you choose a specialty coffee from Brazil, you're not simply buying a beverage. You're supporting families, preserving traditions, strengthening local communities, and helping sustain a way of life that has shaped Brazilian coffee culture for generations.

🌿 Great coffee starts with great people. ❤️ And in Brazil, those people are often families who have cared for the same land for decades.

Because specialty coffee is not only about scores, aromas, or tasting notes.

It's about stories.

#SpecialtyCoffee #BrazilianCoffee #CoffeeFarmers #FamilyFarms #CoffeeCulture"A great coffee can survive a bad brew. It cannot survive a bad roast."

☕ THE SCA SCORE DOESN'T END ON THE FARM.

A coffee can have exceptional genetics, perfect terroir, meticulous harvesting, and flawless processing. It can have all the potential to score 90+ points.

Yet one mistake in roasting can erase years of hard work.

Roasting is where potential becomes reality.

Underdevelop it, and you'll taste grass, sharp acidity, and an empty cup. Over-roast it, and you'll lose the origin, sweetness, and complexity that made the coffee special in the first place.

The same coffee can score 88 points in the hands of a skilled roaster... or struggle to reach 70 when roasted incorrectly.

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) scale measures quality, but roasting is what unlocks—or destroys—that quality.

🌱 Farmers create potential. 🔥 Roasters reveal it.

No matter how extraordinary the green coffee is, a bad roast cannot be cupped away.

Respect the producer. Respect the bean. Respect the roast.

Because behind every exceptional cup is not just a great coffee...

It's a great roast.
